I have 17 years experience working with young people who have found life challenging for one reason or another. For the last 10 years I have worked exclusively as an art therapist with primary and secondary school children as well as children with learning difficulties.
I understand very clearly the difference the right kind of help can make in a young person’s life if applied in a timely manner.
I have an excellent capacity to establish robust and secure therapeutic relationships with children and young people from diverse and varied backgrounds.
I have extensive experience working with children and young people with a wide range of needs and issues including complex needs such as with children and young people on the autistic spectrum, children in the care system, refugees, children who have experienced significant early trauma, children going through the Youth Justice System, children who are dealing with loss and children who have witnessed and experienced abuse.
I work collaboratively with the child to develop methods and strategies that allow us to engage therapeutically. Every child or young person will need to find their own unique way of engaging to get the most out of the therapy, a major part of my role is to facilitate that.

Art is a wonderful way of expressing and celebrating that uniqueness. Art is also a powerful tool for self-discovery and healing. An important part of my job is to help an individual develop their own way of working, helping them to find a way to express their own experience, their own cares and hopes through art and dialogue. This I consider a privilege. Central to the success of any therapeutic intervention is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. The formation of a non judgemental, positive therapeutic relationship will over time help the individual to be more confident, build their self esteem and gain greater self awareness.
